got this camera just a month ago. Popped in the 512MB Scandisk SD card
which has been used for another camera without any problems. After the
first try, the camera automatically detect and asks to format. Chose
format but it kept telling it couldn't. Eventually I tried the manual
format option from the system menu and it worked. Now infrequently
after turning on the camera it would say cannot read card. After
"rebooting", taking out and popping the card back in, it'd read the
card again. Also randomly, some pictures taken appeared as "invalid
format". I don't mind buying a "Kodak" made memory card, just wonder if
that's really the memory card incompatibility or it's THE camera
problem. TIA.
PS: any idea how to keep the battery status showing. Sometimes it
shows, sometimes it doesn't. WTF. >> Stay informed about: Kodak v550 strange sd card behavior |

I would suggest a contact problem with the card, or camera. I have had
similar problems with new SD cards, but after a few insertions, the
problems cleared up. You might try a few insert/remove cycles to make
sure you get the card's contacts broken in.
Kodak memory cards are no different from Sandisk. >> Stay informed about: Kodak v550 strange sd card behavior |

Hello, Ron:
Well, at least, I know my Kodak 256MB SD card is "no different from"
Lexar, as the latter company is its true manufacturer. <g>
Cordially,

My recently-purchased Kodak C310 had no problems with a 1gb Sandisk CF
card.
Kodak makes it seem like you need one of their CF cards, which are
somewhat more expensive. I got a good deal on the Sandisk card (about $35
plus shipping from Amazon.com) so I figured I would just go with it. No
problems so far.
On the downside, I tweaked the USB cable early on and had to order a
replacement from Kodak. They use proprietary USB cables . >> Stay informed about: Kodak v550 strange sd card behavior |

You do mean SD card, rather than CF card, don't you? The brand doesn't
matter. >> Stay informed about: Kodak v550 strange sd card behavior |

The problem I have seems to occur randomly. I think this digital camera
SD stuff is unpredictable just like a computer (works well for some,
troublling for others). Yes I notice Kodak USB cable has one tiny
connector end that the standard USB cable doesn't fit. Oh well the ink
cartridge game again (hoping people would break the cable)? >> Stay informed about: Kodak v550 strange sd card behavior |

That connector IS a standard (micro) USB connector found in many small
devices. You should be able to find a cable at CompUSA, or probably
Radio Shack.
Or, you can buy one from Kodak for a premium price. >> Stay informed about: Kodak v550 strange sd card behavior |
