hi,
kodak v550 model(MPEG4) has movie length of 14 min with 512 MB card.
wherein z7590(VGA) takes 6.34 min with 128MB card.
why v550 allows so little movie length even though it has MPEG4 format
support?
Also i got info on net that it allows max of 80 min movie. If so then in
which mode, what are the settings reqd for that.
Regards

Greetings Santosh,

The V550 is a great little camera and can yield some awesome results.
One of the features it has is an enhanced movie mode. It can record at
TV quality. The general attributes it has for video are:

Video Mode = continuous MPEG-4 video with audio capture and playback
Video resolution = 30 fps @ VGA (640 × 480), 30 fps @ QVGA (320 × 240)
Video length = continuous up to 80 min. based on memory capacity
Video Image Stabilization = Digital
Zoom during video = Yes
AF during video = Yes
Print thumbnails of video = Yes
Print snapshot from video = Yes
Video format = Quicktime, MPEG 4

The reason it takes more time for a similar amount of movie is due to
the resolution and other differences in how movies are recorded. The
Z7590 movie features are below for comparison.

Video Mode = Video with audio capture/playback
Video resolution = VGA (640 × 480 pixels) at 12 fps; QVGA (320 × 240
pixels) at 20 fps
Video length = Continuous based on memory capacity; or 5-, 15-, 30-sec.
clips
Video format = QUICKTIME MOV (MPEG-4 compression)

80 minutes is the result of using the latest and available memory cards
in the camera. Since others have not yet been available long enough we
have not been able to test. 80 minutes is a long time. If you are going
to take video movies for 80 minutes you might be better off using a
video camera.

I believe the settings would be in the 640 x 480 quality. I will be
checking on this feature.

Talk to you soon.

Hi ron,
Thanks for the information.
I have some queries:
1. Is v550 has 30 fps which allows only 14 min in 512 MBcard where has
z7590 has only 12 fps which makes it to allow ~24 min in 512 MBcard?
Obviously i won't shoot upto 80 min in single movie. but it is reqd to
have more space inorder to store small movies of my baby.
2.What card size is required in order to have movie of 80 min.
3. Is there any setting available in v550 such as better quality (5
Mpixel), less quality (< 5 Mpixel) which would result to increase movie
length?
Thanks in advance,
Santosh

Requirements for ram vary somewhat with the actual nature of the images,
so any value regarding time of recording is an estimate. If you can get
14 minutes on a 512 meg card, then a 4 GB card would give you about 8
times that, and a 2 GB card about 4 times 14 minutes. With variation in
the scene values (compression variation), 80 minutes with a 2GB card
isn't out of range, but it is, as stated, an estimate, not a reliable value.
