Theres plenty of fine point and shoot cameras out there. I'd
suggest you decide how much you want to spend, and what features you
need, then check out the offerings of the well known manufacturers (ie
Canon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji etc.). With the drops in prices and the
increase in quality I'd say go for a MINIMUM of 3MP preferably 5.

I don't know your political persuasions about Wal-Mart, but my local WM
has a good selection of cameras at prices as good as the more reputable
internet vendors. I would advise at least looking at and handling a
camera before buying it. Do not go on specs alone. Placement of
controls, size, etc. are important. I'd go for at least 5mp and 3X
optical zoom. Forget digital zoom- it is not important. >> Stay informed about: shopping for a digital camera....help |

There are a _lot_ of good cameras on the market right now, so a few
questions to help narrow down the list:
* How much money (roughly) are you thinking of spending?
* How big of a camera do you want? Something that will fit in pants
pocket; jacket pocket/purse; around your neck?
* Are you thinking of making prints, or just looking at the pictures on
the screen? If prints, do you think you'll want to make prints bigger
than 8x10"?

Avoid supersmall digicams - they will likely be very difficult to
hold steady enough for good photos in anything but very bright outdoors
lighting! They also tend to have controls too small for easy handling.
No $4 to park! No $6 admission! http://www.INTERNET-GUN-SHOW.com >> Stay informed about: shopping for a digital camera....help |

That's Canadian right? check out futureshop.ca - they frequently have
stuff on sale. E.g. right now they have the Canon SD430 (5 Megapixel)
for $300 until Sept 28. This can do pictures nicely. However it uses a
special battery. The Canon PowerShot A430 is $200 - it takes 4 MP
pictures which is OK if you're not planning to print large photos. It
uses 2 AA batteries, but you should plan on getting rechargeable NiMH
batteries because you will use up a lot of alkaline batteries otherwise. >> Stay informed about: shopping for a digital camera....help |
