That sounds like the "solid ink" technology that was available on a few
machines from Tektronix and Dataproducts. Xerox bought out the Tektronix
printer operation a while back and is still making the solid ink models,
further they seem to have lowered the entry level price to something
reasonable.
I can't see where that's a better solution than quadrichrome ink though.
