When they can make CMOS sensors with decent-sized pixels, & manage to
figure out how to get the data out of them with the same quality as with
conventional sensors, then how to process the data fast enough to
prevent lag between the capture & display, then I'll take the idea of
pentaprism-free cameras seriously. In the meantime, I won't be holding
my breath.

CMOS sensors can already do that, notably those by Canon.

You mean small (for higher resolution) or large (to catch more light)?

Actually all that matters is what solid angle they occupy.

However the lag from release to shutter fall is a PITA.
