Post subject: memory stick or CF card for Sony R1 ??
Archived from groups: rec>photo>digital (more info?)

Hi there,

I read the reviews on Sony R1. It takes either proprietary Memory Stick
(MS) or CF card. The reviewers advised to get a hi-speed MS to write
the JPEG images every 1/3 second. The standard MS provided something
like 1 (or 3) seconds between the continous shots. Some other reviewers
recommended to get a high-speed CF card (like SanDisk Ultra II). Which
one provides a better writing speed ? Which one is better because of
other considerations (like price, convenience etc) ? (I have never
worked with either).

Thanks.

If you want to shoot action with several fps this is not the right camera.
A dSLR will be much faster and more flexible for that purpose.
The EVF and autofocus systems in this camera are intended for a more
deliberate pace of shooting.
I will bet that this is the end of the line for this style of camera from
Sony now that they have a dSLR line. You would be much better off with an
alpha if you want to shoot at higher frame rates.
