on-line prints

Thanks for the suggestion Mike.

I've been searching around on Google and as you suggest Photobox appear to
come out top. Others that look ok are Lab35 and Colourmailer, have you
tried either of these?

No, but I know someone who tried Lab35 and went back to Photobox, from what
I remember it wasn't a quality issue, just turn around time I think.
Re Photobox, I know of at least two pro wedding photographers who were a
little reluctant to try them at first, so they just got a couple of "proof"
albums as a test and they have never gone back to their usual supplier.
Another one has his own in shop 1 hour print setup and he cannot match the
price and quality of the Photobox prints. They really come into their own
when you buy more than 5 prints (even better with 20) the price come down
considerably, they lso have regular "offers" on various lines, free postage
and two for ones etc.
If you are interested in Photobox let me know and I will "recommend" you
with your email address. We will both get a free print allocation for doing
so. This, basically wipes out your first orders postage costs of £1.50 per
order. Just use your free allocation (only pay postage)to see what the
quality is like.
Anything over 10 * 8 could take a little longer than the usual fast turn
around depending on time of year, what offers are on etc. Anything over this
size is also dispatched in bombproof cardboard tubes.

Recommended, many thanks.
You willl recieve a confirmation email with details how to proceed.
Forgot to mention, they will actually process the file you send, i.e. if
say, you want a 20 * 16 print, send them an image cropped to that size
(not a 5*4 enlarged by 16) with a resolution of 200-300. I have sent
numerous 30MG+ JPGs without problem, so do not scrimp on quality.
As I said earlier, use your 30 free print allocation (5*4, 6*4, 6 * 4.5
only) either gloss or matt and see what you think re quality, the worst that
can happen is you have 30 prints for £1.50

If you print a lot - more than 40 or 50, it will be cheaper to get your
own printer - the Canon Pixma iX4000 sells for £175.

I knew you wouldn't be disappointed.
An hour turnaround on a Sunday isn't bad service! Unfortunately, you are
then at the mercy of the postal service.
Used sensibly, you can cover your expenses with PB, I buy blocks of credit
to qualify for 5p prints and when I place an order, I include friends or
relatives images at the same time for which, they pay 10p a print. They are
very happy with this as they also get a basic correction service at the same
time.Hmmm, I think I need to increase my percentage.

I uploaded some photos on Saturday night to Photobox, ordered my free prints
on Sunday together with one A4 enlargement. Within an hour of placing my
order I received an e-mail advising it had been printed and dispatched!
Unfortunately as it was a Sunday I didn't receive the prints until today but
they were worth the short wait. Excellent quality of prints for the small
prints and enlargement I wont hesitate to use them again.
