I have one of the 6 Sonys named. I hope its not defective. Seems ok but
I haven't tried all features yet. On a search on google some reports
said the LCD crystal
and white balance and auto is a problem in some of these cameras but
says there is only one province in China (Shanghai) had problems with
the 6 cameras and said that 7 other cameras failed made by a different
manufacturers, but doesn't mention what make or model these cameras
are. Why would they have problems with the cameras in Shanghai and
nowhere else in China?

Shanghai could have received a bad batch. Such things happen.

Its possible. So far my Sony W5 seems to work OK but like I said, I

That's a harsh way of putting it, but not wrong.
Sony makes good hardware, but the bean counters in the "content" (movies and
music) division are destroying the company. Really sad. (They're also trying
to position the Sony brand as a quality product line at premium prices, and
that idea isn't really flying since (a) the stuff really isn't all that much
better (especially TVs and the like), and (b) the customers are cheap
schmucks.)
