Trying to solve my camera issue where
(1) camera turns on and shows "reading memory card"
(2) Memory card requires formatting --> Continue
(3) formatting will delete everyting on memory card --> continue
(4) memory card is protected (reset switch on memory card)
(5) Camera goes back to (2)

I do not have a memory card in the camera slot, therefore I am unsure
why the camera is trying to format memory. The problem started after I
added a 1 gb SD card in the camera.

Batteries have been removed from the camera for a few days and camera
time reset.

If I plug the camera directly in my ubs port, the camera comes up as a
device, but when I open the camera, I do not see internal memory

Using easyshare 5.2, I am ulable to update the firmware on the camera,
but I am able to synch to the camera. When doing so, I see "synch" on
the camera screen

Is there a way to reset this camera somehow using the buttons?
Can internal memory be disabled somehow? Is there a jumper on the
camera that can do this?
How can I open the camera to look at the system boards?

Rich

Roy.
I have tried with card in and card out. Card with protection on and
protection off.
Camera seems to be stuck in a loop.
Called Kodak support and they asked me to send it in. Sent it in for
an estimate and they did mention something about resetting the camera
but the cost was more than purchasing a new camera.
Just need to figure out how to reset this camera.

A couple of thoughts. You added a 1 gb card. Do you have an "old"
card? Did you try that? Or, can you try it with another card, either
new or a friend of yours.

Have you tried formating the card from your computer's card reader?

I don't know about Kodak, but with my Canon dSLR, the first thing it
does is check the card. If it finds a new operating system, it
immediately asks you if you want to update your operating system from
the card. That is how you flash the RAM or update the operating sytem.

If Kodak is the same way, you might want want to try to "upgrade" the
operating system. It sounds scarier than it is. If you can do that,
it might reset everything.

Have you tried putting an SD card into the Camera, with the switch on the SD
card set to the "Unsecure" position, so that the camera can perform a Format
on the Card.

Recently, found a friend of mine that has the exact camera. Took his
256 mb card and put in mine. Tried to format, still no go.
Put the 1 gb card in his camera, worked perfectly.

I believe the problem lies with the internal memory of the camera.
Camera connected to pc via usb cable, I am able to read and write to
the internal memory.
WOndering if there is a tool or a way to reset the internal memory
somehow.

Not sure what you mean about trying to upgrade the operating system.

If you mean flashing the camera, I am able to successfully bring the
camera to firmware version 1.06. Version 1.08 and version 1.10.
All yielding the same results.

I rather suspect you have a problem with the contacts on the flash card
connector inside the camera. You might try blowing any foreign matter
out of the slot. Failing such an easy fix, then it might be time to
move to a newer camera. Many of the new models would exceed the
capabilities of the DX6340 at a lower price than a repair.
