Hello,
Just wanted to mention that I installed Gimp 2.4 yesterday and played
around it a bit. It is a wonderful experience over the previous one. The
selections are now resizable and it has red eye reduction function to
mention the most basic ones which were lacking earlier. So if I wanted
to crop an image with a particular aspect raion, I had to select the
area multiple times to get it right. And didn't have any straight
forward method to reduce red eyes. Both are a breeze now.
Kudos to the developers!

Does it still throw up multiple, independent windows all over the screen? >> Stay informed about: gimp 2.4, what an improvement! |

Does it print well also?
My OS is Linux and Gimp-print-4.2.7 doesn't seem like working with the
new version.
I had to go back to Gimp-2.2.15 >> Stay informed about: gimp 2.4, what an improvement! |

Yes.
There's a "windows deweirdifier" plugin if you want it to
all be confined in one window.
OTOH, having separate windows has advantages once you get
used to it - especially if you're working with two monitors. >> Stay informed about: gimp 2.4, what an improvement! |

Yes, I was just going to mention that two monitors situation. I wasn't
aware of the deweirdifier plugin though.

I thought about that, but windows on other desktops are not visible so
not sure how useful that can be.

Yes. UFRAW is a very nice plugin that is just about as
good as it gets for RAW file handling.

I can't find the redeye correction. Can you tell me where it is? And what
about small-angle rotation? I can't find that either, and it's a "sine qua
non" feature without which I'm unlikely to be interested enough to survive the
learning curve.

I can't say that its performance impressed me much
though. I almost always do red eye removal manually by
zooming in and using the clone tool.

Under Tools>Transform Tools->Rotate you can
rotate by 1/100th of a degree. The slider moves in 1.36
degree increments and the tab jumps in 1/10th of a
degree increments. Those can be used to get close, and
the you'll need to manually enter the number of 1/100ths
of a degree to get that level of precision.

Eh, i 'ave worked both ways. Both are natural to me now. Though i
generally like just a few windows, the richness of the toolset makes
this difficult. There is some value to tear-off and dockable menus. >> Stay informed about: gimp 2.4, what an improvement! |
