If I remember correctly, Hi-8 was in the low to mid 400 lines. Todays
DV format camera are capable of delivering more than 500 lines depending
on camcorder model.

How about the Canon GL2? Specs say 525 lines, 60 fields. Or is the
Canon XL2 what you are looking for?

Sony and Panasonic have comparable camera's.

Many hi end camcorders, like Canon's GL2 or XL2 do have these options,
however, some of the manual controls may be within a menu, not a physical.

For example, the GL2 has a focus ring and a zoom switch. However, WB is
a WB button which opens a menu to select a preset setting or define a
custom WB setting.

If you are used to a $30,000 camera, a $2,000 is going to aggravate the
hell out of you. What I did when looking for a camcorder, was to visit
the manufactures web site and download the user manual.

Well, I've never had a $30,000 camera, since I haven't had $30,000 to
get
one with (not yet, anyway).
