I'm looking for a slide scanning service. I have too little time to
make it worth while buying a slide scanner, but I want at least 4000
dpi images back. I'd also like to not pay a bundle.
Can anyone recommend a service that they have actually used?
Thanks.

I'm in NYC.
For example, Dig My Pics (www.digmypics.com) offers 4000 dpi scanning
on Nikon equipment at $0.79/slide. Other places go from around there
to $1.50/slide.
The local pro lab near my office charges $20/slide.
I'm not looking for edits or corrections beyond ICE etc.

Do you need to scan your slides? Why not just store them properly? They
should last more than a lifetime as is. >> Stay informed about: Scanning |

I need prints of them, and I don't want to have to go back to the lab
every time.

Got ya. Do you need that high of res? With many printers it will not
really make that much differnce. >> Stay informed about: Scanning |

I do. In addition to full frame shots, I want to crop and isolate
some portions of the slides as their own shots. The higher the
resolution, the better. Space to store them isn't a problem.

I understand. Wish I knew of a good service for you. I have read of one
in Phoenix, can't recall the name, but tha are said to be good. Knowing
Phoeinix this would likely be the only sevice in the valley so you might
do a search and see what comes up. >> Stay informed about: Scanning |

When you find out how much it costs to scan slides you may end up buying
a scanner anyway.

Hi...
And with very good reason. I'm about halfway through a few
thousand slides and negatives, and only been at it for about
two and a half years. And I'm long retired, with lots of time
to work on them
I think the fellow that offered to do 'em for 5 bucks apiece
wasn't far off.

Absolutely. And, when you are finished with your slides (assuming that
you will not be taking any more film based pictures) you can easily sell
the scanner to someone who also wants to scan slides for about 2/3's of
what you paid and then get yourself a very good flat bed scanner.
