I need a recommendation for software that can create thumbnail images
for jpegs in hundreds (maybe thousands) of folders. The folders are
all contained in one folder. I would like the thumbnails stored in
the same folder as the parent image, taking the parent image's name
and adding a prefix like 'Th_".
Are there any programs designed to handle thumbnail generation in a
batch format like this?
Thanks for your help,

Irfanview will do that very quickly for free.
Open an image at the top level, type 'B' for batch
check 'Include subdirectories'
leave 'Output directoy' empty
click 'Add all'
check 'Batch conversion - rename results
Name pattern: Th_$N
Use advanced options... set resizing there... add a little sharpening
too like 15... 'set long side' for mixed portrait & landscape
click START

I'd use ImageMagick, but that's probably because I prefer
the control I get from command-line tools for this kind of
thing. It can do pretty much anything that's possible to do
with an image file, including of course making a thumbnail
of it.

In my opinion, even if you use another program for most of your photo
work, you should still have IrfanView installed, especially considering
its "price". It does soooo many things soooo well.

It's hard to beat Irfanview on a price/performance basis. I have tried
dozens of similar programs, and always seem to come back to Irfanview. >> Stay informed about: Need to create thumbnails for images in hundreds of folders |

Hi again,
Thanks for the replies. I tried Irfanview, and was able to create
renamed thumbnails as I desired, except that for the images found in
subfolders it placed the thumbnails into the parent folder. Is it
possible for it to store the thumbnails within the subfolders? Or do
I need something with more scripting options?
Thanks again,

I could say the a similar thing, but in my case with
Faststone. Irfanview feels awkward - non-standard - to me,
although it works well enough.

Faststone is great, but Irfanview has been around so long here that it
feels like that comfortable old set of sneakers that 'know' my feet. >> Stay informed about: Need to create thumbnails for images in hundreds of folders |
