Post subject: crazy question.. adapting old lenses to new DSLR

so i have searched high and low and I know it can happen with most but not sure if it can happen with mine...

I have a Canon XTI and I want to know if I can put a CIMKO MT series 80-200 macro lens on it with an adapter. If so what kind? I also have a SMC Pentax-A 1:2 50mm I would love to try out as well.

If anyone has any info I would love it:)

thanks in advance!
Tanya

Post a good macro pic of the back of the lens, so we can ID it.

This chart help you ID a funky lens

http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/index-99.html

Then search eBay for :

(lens name) EOS adapter AF

To use a funky lens on a Canon :

0. Get an "AF confirm" adapter that mounts the lens to Canon
0. Attach adapted lens to Canon
1. Set camera's ISO
2. Put camera in Av mode (aperture priority)
3. Set desired aperture on lens
0. Aim at subject
4. Depress shutter button halfway as if you were using an autofocus lens
5. Focus the lens by twisting it, when it is in focus there will be a confirmation light in the viewfinder
6. Depress the shutter button the rest of the way to capture the image

It's much faster to do it than it is to read it I do events with manual lenses all the time. I love Nikkor manual lenses

The AF adapters work best when the lens' aperture is wider than f/5.6 (for example, f/3) - so when focusing set the aperture open wide (for example, f/3) then after you are focused, stop it down (if you care to) before taking the shot (for example, f/

Some lenses can not be mounted to a Canon because the required distance from lens to sensor is too little - the lens would have to be mounted INSIDE the camera! But this can be overcome with an adapter that has a glass element in it. But this glass element changes the quality ...

Cheers,
Craig

Here we go, I found them :

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&catref=C6&from=R40&satitle=pentax+eos+adapter+-screw+-m42&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=04240&sabfmts=1&saobfmts=insif&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1 (Click)

I'd be inclined to have AF confirm chip and ensure infinity focus is possible. Some adaptations don't have those two features.

Have fun!
Craig

I'd better be getting good lenses with the New Rebel... - I have the 6 megapixel digital Rebel. I set it up on a tripod outside and made exposures with different lenses at different apertures and zoom settings. I found in about every case, the lens was not utilizing the full resolution of the sensor. Stoppin...
