i have a canon A710IS camera

When i take a video (30 f/s , 640 resolution), 15 seconds comes out as at
30 odd Mb. I will rapidly run out of hard disk space at thatt rate. What
recomendations can people give for converting to a smaller size.

I am not worried if file ends up being an avi, mpeg or wmv i would just like
it smaller.

Regards

Steve

http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html works pretty well for conversion and is
free. If you want to try editing the clips, then you will need some
video-editing software. There are many such packages from free to high fee.
If you have a DVD burner, the software that came with it may allow
rudimentary editing and file conversion.

There are tools for most platforms to do AVI
conversions to a DVD compatible format. Afterdawn

http://www.afterdawn.com/

is a great resource. Lots of software and FAQ
stuff there and threads such as this one:

If you really are interested in shooting video, then you should get a mini
dv camcorder. The video feature of digital still cameras is an add on
feature, like a camera phone, and never yields as good results as a
camcorder engineered for the purpose of shooting video.
Have a happy new year!

When i see that a film (90 minutes) can be on the internet and only take up
700mb of space and be good enough quality then i would have thought there
would be some way to dwonsize my video.

Happy new year to you as well

I'll have a look a the above. I won't be editing the clips. Most clips will
be approx a minute in length and will be just d=saved in a directory
detailing month and year clip was taken

Thanks

Hi...

Suggest that you take a look at ulead video studio... it will change
the format of your .avi (uncompressed) files to almost any other format
you can think of...

Take care.
