I'm going on vactation next month and I had planned to purchase a 30D
but I've grown to love my Optio 'S' for it's small size (sometimes I
forget it's in my pocket) and with the improvements in technology I
think another compact camera would be fine. So, I've done some
googling and the Sony P200 seems inexpensive at roughly $239 and quite
good in terms of photo quality even though it's slightly larger than my
Optio. Then I looked at the N1 which is $200 more expensive and with
complaints about redeye. So, I'm leaning towards the P200 since it's
so cheap I can still buy a DSLR later on and not feel so guilty. Does
anyone know if any good compact digital cameras I should be looking at?

Fuji Finepix F30

Its a star camera, already won a award and a great follow on from the
F10/F11

I've been quite happy with my P200. For a small 7mp camera the noise levels
are fairly low, the lens is sharp, and the size is good. The full manual
capabilities are nice. The long shutter speed (up to 30 sec) has allowed me
to take some pretty impressive night shots as well.
