If you think about it, the term DSLR is wrong, very wrong. SLR was already
wrong. Why? Because it was used to distinct it from the old Mamiya and
Rollei camera with two lenses; one to see thru and one to take the picture
with.
The SLR was the first camera that enabled you to see thru the same lens as
the picture was taken. BUT: the first camera lenses coudn´t be changed!
So when later the interchangeable lens camera´s came, the name should have
been changed to IL: Interchangeable Lens camera. So the DSLR would be called
a DIL or Digital Interchangeable Lens camera.
And then there is the IS camera: the Interchangeable System camera, like the
Hasselblad and other 6x6 camera´s that can have almost everything changed.
A DIS is.... a Digital version....
Then you have the compact mess!!
Ok, we keep the compact, but only for those who fit in your shirt pocket.
The so called bridge is not clear enough, so we call it a LL camera. Locked
Lens. So a DLL is??
Now we have it: a brilliant easy to understand abreviation system for all
the camera´s, from small to big:
Compact: fits in your shirt
DLL: the Panasonic, Sony, Fuji and all the other bigger zoom lens camera´s
with unchangeable lens
DIL: the Nikon D80, Canon 400D, and all their friends
DIS: Hasselblad and all other camera´s that have all options but nobody can
pay

)
So next time you can ask someone how the DIL is doing or how much months
they still have to pay for their DIS. And how and where did they find that
cheap snappy DLL?
Of course: if they have a compact, it stays the same....
