I'm looking for a camera for some research - iris recognition, so I
need high resolution pictures from short distance, and as I mentioned
in title - composite output and auto-focus. Any suggestion?

I believe my Pentax Optio 750Z will do all of that.
It produces 7 mp images from as little as 2 cm
away and has autofocus. I'm pretty sure it can
also do composite video out - though I don't have
a cable and have never tried it.

There are many others too.

One downside however is that autofocus requires
good lighting and relatively sharp lines to focus on.
My Pentax is not so good at that. It's an area
you'll have to test with any camera you get.

Incidentally, aren't "high resolution" and "composite
video" (assuming that's what you meant by "composite
output") mutually exclusive?

I should have written that I need sharp pictures of iris at dimension
at least 200 x 200 pixels from distance 0.5-1 m.

I checked out some security cameras, but still don't know what to
choose...

I've seen several shows that show cameras tracking eye movement and
iris aperture, and they appear to use somewhat standard "lipstick"
cameras and software to track movement and aperture. Focus isn't a
problem, with fixed focus from a few inches to infinity.
Obviously, such cameras usually use composit output.
