Archived from groups: rec>photo>digital (more info?)

Im on a budget and have a Mac 7600 with USB PCI card Most cameras now
need Mac OSX or higher
I dont need anything too fancy just a decent image to email and print
out to 4x6 JPEG only would be OK I was looking atthe Olympus SP-350
but its OSX only

An older camera might work with lower MP but which one?
Any other OS9 duffers out there with some advice?

thanks...

Michae

Almost all cameras will work with OS9 as long as you are not shooting RAW
files. Ignore the software that comes with the camera; use a memory card
reader instead.

That's just for connecting the camera tothe computer (which I never do).
Get yourself a card reader, and it's basically a mute distinction.

Find a USB card reader that works under OS9 (I remember using a USB CF
reader on an OS9 machine, so I know that they exist; I don't know
whether a new reader would work or whether you would need OS9 drivers),
and then you can use whatever camera you want.

Until you start trying to use a camera with RAW files. Not many OS9 RAW file
readers out there.

??
RAW conversion is software based. Are you saying that the RAW conversion
program won't run on OS9?
Wow.

Most won't. OS-9 predates wide use of most of the latest RAW formats. I don't
believe the latest Adobe RAW converters run on OS-9, for example. Sure, if
you have an older camera and Photoshop for OS-9, then why not? But I would
genuinely like to see how anyone would use OS-9 to view Nikon D80 RAW files.
