I've had an order in for two weeks, called today and they say the backorder
wait is still 2 to 4 weeks. Am I getting the runaround because of the price
($309 +$15 S&H)?

Thanks.

Maybe.
Who did you order from?
Many low-price camera stores are ripoff artists; they advertise a low
price, but the camera at that price is never in stock. Instead, they
will offer a higher priced "kit", with overpriced items (like filters,
abtteries, chargers, straps, lens caps)( that are often already
included in the kit from the mfgr).

Probably not. If that was the case a salesperson probably would
have aggressively tried to switch you to some other camera.
Sometimes camera manufacturers simply don't have anything to ship to
dealers, and in that case the dealers usually say that shipments
should arrive within a couple of weeks. That's what most of them
say when they don't know. When checking the availability of a
particular flash last year, I heard the same thing ("check back in a
week or two"). Eventually shipments started reaching all of the
dealers, but not before nearly 4 months had passed. There's one
other (remote) possibility. When shipments start arriving, they may
not be cartons of S3 Powershots, but S4's. <g>

Issue is resolved: I cancelled the order today and will shop elsewhere. The
site was InfinitiPhoto.com. BTW, the price shown now is $30 higher than
when I ordered.

You know, oddly enough, the same thing happened when I bought a Canon
Powershot S2 IS from butterflyphoto.com; the price went from $302
(included shipping) to $330 after I ordered... :/ *CRAFTY BASTARDS!*

Hello, Bill:

This unscrupulous practice is known as "unbundling," by the way.
