Anyone considering buying a Kodak camera should reconsider their choice.
There are better companies to deal with.

Eastman Kodak (EK), the company famed for generations of priceless
photos, has resigned from the national Council of Better Business
Bureaus after the consumer protection group started expulsion
proceedings against the firm, the council announced Monday.

Well, Kokak is just another company going down the road of Polaroid
and such. They don't even care about big guys with serious reputation.
They just let them sit in the dark. Many companies do the same but
luckely there are some exceptions. They will charge a premium to
provide service/consistency but if this is important to you stick with
them for the best chance of success.

Have to tell you this is old news. Kodak has a one-year warranty on
its digital cameras, both new and refurb. Hard to find other major
manufacturers offering this, along with a customer advocate to help
resolve problems. Trouble is most people who drop their camera and
break it think this entitles them to a new camera for free. 'Taint so.
Use the damned wrist strap.

And wouldn't it be nice if camera makers saw fit to add another bracket
so we could hang it on our neck. Is there some rule that states it's ok
to hang a heavier/larger dslr around one's neck but not a more compact
model.

As soon as I encounter a problem with a Kodak device, I probably will quit
dealing with them. So far, after two cameras and several accessories, I've
had no problems.

Why? If you follow that practice on other things, you will soon find
you have nothing left to buy. The truth is that EVERYTHING breaks,
wears out, or becomes obsolete. I am sure that Kodak is no better than
average at such things, and probably no worse either.
As for the BBB, someone should report THEM for poor customer service as
my limited dealings with them have been totally unproductive.

Aye. You have a point about BBB. I don't blacklist a manufacturer simply
because a product breaks. If they give me what I consider sub-standard
support, howere, I do. One case in point - Canon's total lack of support
for Linux. It's my money, and my choice. They ignore my OS, I ignore them.

Ditto. I swore that when I replaced my Nikon CP800 it would be with one
with TWO eyelets. Unfortunately, I also swore that, having once lugged a
4x5 Speed Graphic around, I would never again be burdoned with a heavy/big
camera like the ones with two eyelets.

How much could it possibly cost them? I'd pay a few bucks for a second
eyelet, wouldn't you? Feh.

I've almost decided on a Canon A570 -- aperture and shutter priority
settings are really important, along with reasonably small size and
non-proprietary batteries. Any GOOD reason I shouldn't?

That's what I thought until I found that the only reasonably-priced scanner
I could find that would scan 2-1/4" slides was a Canon. I bought it, hooked
it up to my windows machine (the other essential piece of WinSh*t is Turbo
Tax) and have really never been sorry. I guess my principles are for sale
at a really low price...

Interesting. I found that the Epson Perfection 4490 does the job just
fine. It was about $125 refurb from the Epson online store. I've used it
on 2-1/4" photos - it also handles slides and negatives of that size.

Well, it may be ancient news to the others here,
but I only just joined the group, so it's new news to me.

OTOH, I can't say I am in the least surprised.
My wife and I have had dreadful experiences with Kodak
and "their" service department, w/r/t two separate cameras in the past year.
Got her to a Canon Powershot instead.

The BBB is just a mutual admiration society for retail businesses, so, who
cares? I'm surprised they wasted their time in there in the first place if
this "report" is true. Seems like so many people think it is a government
agency (it isn't) and that it can actually do anything (it logs complaints
and asks MERCHANTS to respond to them, if the merchant doesn't respond there
are no consequences just as there are no consequences if the merchant
responds but doesn't resolve anything). Oh yeah, if the merchant gets
enough unresolved complaints, the BBB may refuse to accept their check next
year for membership. Big yawn.

If you have a problem, know how to complain and who to complain to. For
fraudulent activity from a merchant, contact your state attorney general and
the merchant's state attorney general. If you bought by mail or used a
postal money order, file USPS form 8165 (mail fraud). If you have a problem
with your employer, file a complaint with Department of Labor. You get the
idea...find out what government agency has authority and contact them.

Hello, Scenic Man:

Welcome, to the newsgroup! I just wanted to point out that, the cited
"USA Today" article is dated March 26, 2007 -- practically four months
ago.

> OTOH, I can't say I am in the least surprised.
> My wife and I have had dreadful experiences with Kodak
> and "their" service department, w/r/t two separate cameras in the past year.

I must be extremely lucky, then, as I've never needed any service.

> Got her to a Canon Powershot instead.

My latest, of many Kodak digicams, is a V603 (6 megapixel). It's quite
small and features a metal body, with a gorgeous, metallic red finish
and chrome trim.

Takes nice pictures, too. <g>
