Camera is about 2.5 yrs old and recently (5 Mths) had lens section
replaced. I am now having a problem with camera swithching on and off
,symptoms are 1/ when I press the power button for on lens will
extend, then then retract and may repeat this action 3-4 times, sometimes
only way to stop is by removing batteries. I might have to go through
this procedure a couple of times before I can take photos, anyone out
there have an answer or has struck this problem

My C700UZ is five years old and still working as well as it ever did.
That's not saying much, but at least it hasn't stopped doing what it
was designed to do.

You actually have a broken camera, and hence an excuse to go out and
buy the one you really want. I'd rather be in your position. Smile

It could just be dirty battery connectors or worn out batteries.

if you drop yours (and step on it really hard) you can be in his position
too.

That's occurred to me. I can't put my finger on exactly what bothers me
about it. It feels deceptive, somehow. Smile

You'd feel different if you knew what it said about your mama.
Discretion prevents me from revealing all in a public newsgroup

Even easier... with the C-7xx cameras all you need do is give the
side of the (extended) lens the gentlest imaginable tap... Sad
