Yes, balloon sightings date to the very roots of the modern
"flying saucer" myth, in 1947. Notable incidents concerned
some of the U.S. Air Force's "Top Secret" programs (i.e.,
"Project Skyhook" and "Project Mogul").
The most ballyhooed UFO case has long been tied to Rosewell,
New Mexico. Preposterous tales of a crashed extraterrestrial
spaceship and an "alien autospy" abound.
In reality, the Rosewell "event" was only the wreckage of a
Mogul balloon!
