Keep in mind that these quick-and-dirty pics are un-retouched, un-
photoshopped pics,
some converted directly from the RAW files to small JPEGs. I will
pick out a few later
for post editing and printing, but i wanted to give you an idea of
what i was able to capture.
Here are the Egypt ones:

The Canon 40D absolutely rocks! Good shutter speed and fast 1600 ISO.
Some of my trip mates were struggling with their point and shoots,
complaining
about too-slow shutter speed and not enough zoom. They were faster on
the
draw, of course, but i would trade the quality i got from a dSLR for
it's inherent
bulkiness. And some other people had non-SLRs that were nearly as
bulkly,
but didn't have the nice big LCD screen that the 40D features.
Battery life was
excellent, as i had no problem shooting through the eyepiece. Brought
a mono-pod
but almost never used it....the image-stabilization appears to work
well.
Some chromatic abberation is visible if you zoom in on the ultra-
wide angle
shots, but this is to be expected.... and overall i was happy with the
stock 17-85mm
lens with the kit.....it was indeed a good overall lens (it was the
only one i brought).
I had only 8 Gigs of compact flash memory, but i was able to burn
to both CD and
DVD on the trip. Always copy from the CF card to the computer HD
first!
And don't try to erase images on the CF card when it's plugged into
the USB port
of the computer, or the formatting gets corrupted, and you will have
to re-format in the camera and lose data!
Anyhow, thanks for all the advice, and hopefully you will enjoy
some
of my pics!
Peace!
