What's with the prices of memory cards these days? Companies like Sandisk
overprice their cards to extremely high, because of the high demand. Memory
of other devices, like PC's or MP3 players are very low, so we're getting
the short end of the stick.
Being on location, you can't have too much memory cards with you. You never
know how many shots you will make.
I found a solution for these scam artists: a wonderful little thing called:
Mediadisk from Memup. It has a card reader, USB connection, HD of 160 to 750
GB (I got 500), several video connections and coaxial and optical sound.
I copied a life DVD of the Bee Gees with DTS sound to test and it was
fantastic! Movies, music and pictures: everything on TV.

The input power is 12 volt DC, so you can use a cigarette lighter plug to
use it in the car. After you fill a card, start the disk, wait for the AV
LED and stick the card in the box. Wait for the LED's again, press OTB (One
Touch Backup), wait for the LED's and then press OK.
Now wait or continue shooting. The reader is not fast: a 4 GB card can take
half an hour, but you can leave it on it's own.

Maybe if we all buy stuff like this, we can bring these money sucking
companies to their knees and see prices going down.

BTW: you can also opt for an imagetank that might be faster, but you
wouldn't have all the fun you'd have with this box. They come in a variety
of names and brands. Just make sure they use 12 volt DC and look for the +
and - signs.

Prices are dropping all the time, don't know what you're going on about.

What world are you living in? 2GB cards here run under $20 USD.
Yes, that is more expensive than HD storage, but still vastly cheaper
than only a few years ago.

That kinda eliminates this from serious consideration, now, doesn't it?

WHat type of memory are you referring to CF/SD?
SD I can by 4Gb for £20 8Gb for £40 - Sandisk SDHC
Sandisk Extreme III 4gb costs £32
Compact Flash is about on a par
I don't find this overpriced or extremely high. WHere's the scam?

Prices are coming down all the time. perhaps locally for you price may
be an issue, but I don't see it like that in the UK.
BTW I've got my 60gb Creative Labs Zen Vision:M for backing up my pics
to. 5v and can also be charged from the cig lighter.

Do they have oxygen on your planet?
Or do you think $180.- is a normal price for 8GB, while a 2 GB MP3 player
costs less than $10.-?
I got 500 GB for half that price.

8GB SDHC card was recently purchased for $69 after shipping... I think you
had better find O2 as you are definitely Oxygen Starved... A 16GB SDHC Card
is exhorbant at over $320 but that too will drop I imagine.

You need to check your pricing. Here's a high quality CF card, 8G, for much
less than $180:

http://www.adorama.com/IDSCF8GE3.html

And don't compare MP3 players with CF cards. Apples and oranges.

And the CF micro drives were an option for some time, but now they
just don't offer much over a CF flash card. I see at B&H you can still
buy a 4GB microdrive for $125, I wonder how many of those they are
selling.

By the time you can a hard drive down to the size of a CF card it just
does not have room for much storage. The biggest microdrive is
something like 8GB and cost over $200.

You are pretty funny, you only want the fastest most expensive memory
cards, but you are willing to take half and hour to down load 4GB of
photos.

That's a cheap older model.
Get it straight. Here's one 8 GB for $270.- !!!
http://www.adorama.com/HNRCF8GB.html
WOW: it has a "whopping" speed of 42 MB/sec.
Any cheap hd does 50 and my RAID0 does over 100. For a hell of a lot less
money and 500 GB storage space. Saver too...

> And don't compare MP3 players with CF cards. Apples and oranges.
Indeed. The latter has hard- and software build in for the same price...
But I don't care if you want to use golden CF cards. It's you dinheiro...
