I've just bought two more SD cards for my camera ready for a long holiday.
Is it safe to keep them together for storage, or might one wipe or damage
the other, please?

If they're both male it would be best to keep them apart.

More seriously, just keep them in a card wallet or the original
plastic case that might have come with the cards. You mainly want
to prevent the metal contacts from being scratched or being
subjected to dirt/oil from your fingers.

hermetically sealed containers ? Doh, the trouble I could have avoided
at the airport !

Not at all. You need to take that much care to prevent the cards
from being damaged while dining. Exposure to nuoc mam or habaņera
hot sauce can be fatal to the cards unless they are mil-spec. parts.
But your precautions don't need to go that far. Glass Mayonnaise
jars work just as well.

Or triple wrapped in HD aluminium foil. Martha recommends little red
ribbons bow tied, but that does nothing for safety.

I have great difficulty envisioning any storage method in which they could
interfere with each other. I usually keep mine in the same pocket.

Well, the bits on SD cards *are* promiscuous and will migrate freely
between nearby cards. But, due to quantum mechanical conservation
of momentum, they always travel in pairs moving in opposite time-space
directions and cancel out.

The only thing you really need to worry about is the high voltage
on those gold-plated contacts. Could start a fire in your pocket.
Just keep them in the cute little plastic cases they came in, and
they'll be fine.

There is no way I can imagine that keeping them together can cause loss
of data, unless you LOSE both of them...
