I upgraded from Roxio's Creator Ver 7 to Ver 9 and burned a DVD to contain a
lot of original photos and saved the disc. So much for that.
Now, when I work with any of those files saved in my computer, I get the
frequent error message that the particular photo has something attached to
it namely ":RoxioEMCStream:$Data". What the aitch has Roxio done to my
photo files? What can I do about it? >> Stay informed about: Roxio Creator 9 |

Not sure, but this sounds like they are using a little used/known technology
in Windows NT and later called Additional Data Streams. This allows you to
attach information to files that Windows Explorer and most other programs
don't report. It's actually very simple to use. Example:
Create a file in notepad.exe Do not add anything to it.
Save it to mytext.txt
Now add ton of text to it and save it as mytext.txt:Test.txt
If you look at the file in Explorer you will see it being reported as 0
bytes even if you added ton of text to it. You can open mytext.txt and it's
still empty. But if you open mytext.txt:Text.txt you get your ton of text
back. My guess is that Roxio is using this to add information to the files
on the DVD for whatever purposes. I have only once come accross software
that used this - Kaspersky Antivirus 5. Version 6 removed the information
and since it was attached to ever single file on my computers it took a
while!!! Like 2 days for my desktop computer!

I downloaded this program:
http://www.isgeo.kiev.ua/shareware/download.html
and ran it on my computer and it shows you what files have ADS, who created
it and what it contains. There are other software out there that can do
this as well. I would suggest you download something that can show you ADS
and double check that that's what this is. If it is, then I would suggest
that you report the problem to Roxio.
Best regards, >> Stay informed about: Roxio Creator 9 |

Arnor, sounds like you were correct! I downloaded the program you mentioned
and probably 90% of the photos I mentioned carried the additional data. I
don't know why Roxio would do something like that. It is bad for customer
relations to always have a flag waved in your face everytime you want to
transfer a file. Thanks.

Yup! I received, "...did not find updates for your application." It is
really exasperating to be constantly told that I will lose something if I
proceed with some step when I had no problem with Version 7.
