Reading a book (fiction) set in Ireland, I came across the phrase "A
rib broke in the devil". Never heard it before. Context is:

"Back in the pub, I had to shake myself physically, rid my mind of the
demons. Must have shown on my face as Ridge's eyes softened, a rare
occurrence. She asked,

'Jack, you OK?'

'Jack!'

A rib broke in the devil. I didn't answer and for one mad moment it
seemed like she might reach out and touch me.

'Jack, there've been some changes in Galway,'

I snapped out of the maudlin mode...."

("Ridge" is the English form of the Gaelic female name "Ni Iomaire".)

Unlike Marcus, who is better at this than I am, I can't even provide a
guess as to the meaning of the phrase. The Irish bring the devil
into many of their sayings, but this one's new on me.

I thought you had finally had enough of being abused there, and
decided to establish an un-nicked persona here!

Abused? I'll have you know that I'm a semi-respected regular in that
group!

Well, perhaps "semi-respected" is dressing up the pup, but I do lay
claim to "not totally disrespected in all cases".

Hey Tony - we're going to Orlando to see the Blue Man Group at Universal
today. You ever see it?

Yes, we did. I took my wife there for our anniversary (43rd).
Absolutely fantastic. Right up there with Cirque du Soleil.

Parking's a bitch, though. The Universal garage is immense, and if
you don't know what you're doing you end up parking miles from the
venue. Ask the attendant when you pull in about what area is best to
park in. Parking is supposed to be free before a certain time, but we
were there in October and they do charge during special times like the
Halloween nights.

One of my long-term ambitions is to reach a comparable level.

I know, I know; let me dream, OK?
