I gave my daughter my pocket-size Olympus D-40 last year and I've been
missing it ever since. The canon 1D with 17-40 is just too big for carrying
in the briefcase/backpack. Smile

I was hoping I could replace it for about $150 on ebay but at the moment I
can't find any worth buying, and I'd really like my new pocket model to use
CF.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

The D40 is an interesting camera. I didn't realize how nice it was until I
(ironically, given your situation) gave it to my daughter. It's good pretty
darned good color, exceptional auto white balance, very sharp lens, and the
custom-setting mode is pretty cool. Downsides are short battery life and
purple fringing on wide-angle shots.

I picked up a Fuji F10 which isn't bad; in particular, it's low-light
sensititivy (with low noise) is such that you can shoot routinely at ISO-400
with pretty nice results. But... the lack of manual control is annoying, and
it really seems like the Olympus had a better lens.

Hi Bob,

I would have to say you are realy looking at Canon PS50/60/70 as your main
choice or older Canon Ixus 400/500 as all new models take SD.

I'd go for the PS50/60 as it provides all the shooting modes you get on your
SLR, is relatively compact, certainly feels sturdy and have seen the PS50 go
for around £100 on Ebay. (Got my uncle to buy a PS50 from me when I worked
in camera store and he's got on fine).

You can broaden your choices with some Nikon/Olympus/Canon (G6) and so on
but this increases the size of camera as well. Basically all small cameras
are mainly using SD, XD or MS cards, not CF.

Cheers,
Stephen.
