I have a Sony DSC-717 that no longer works. The camera does not turn
on. More specifically it turns on and then immediately turns off. I
have middling technical skills. Is there a reasonable chance that I
can fix it? Are there schematics or some such available? Or do I just
try to sell it to someone else to fix (I see non-working version of
this selling on eBay).

Batteries OK? After a few years, Li-ion cells will have a lot less
capacity.

True. After only 3.5 years, the battery in my laptop is down to only
48% of its original capacity, when it says 100% charged.

You can try re-setting it. Take out the battery,, then hold down the
on switch for 30 seconds. Wait about 3 minutes, insert a charged
battery and switch on.

Update, apparently you need to hold the on switch for two minutes.

Another way of resetting your H3 is to take the battery completely out
of it, then hold down the on button for 2 whole minutes. Put the
battery back in and that will do a complete camera reset that is
different than the menu restart.

Since it's a Sony...dump it and get a real digital camera.

That's actually doing very very well. Normal useful life is about two
years. At four years many won't hold a significant charge.

Thanks to all. I am going to try to get my hands on a new fully
charged battery. If it does not work with that, then I guess it is
time to sell it.
