A family member will be taking a trip soon and wants to get a digital
camera with the following requirements. We don't have a lot of time to
do the usual exhaustive research, so any recommendations would be
appreciated.
o good image stabilized telephoto capability e.g. 10x zoom or more
o lightweight and compact
o good battery life (proprietary battery okay)
o AR coated LCD if there is no viewfinder
o under $300
o available in black !
Thanks. >> Stay informed about: Need Recommendation for Point and Shoot |

A friend of mine has just got the Panasonic TZ3 and is very pleased with
it:

28 - 280mm optical image stabilised zoom, very compact, weighs 232g,
available in black. He commented how easy it was to see the 3-inch LCD,
even in sunlight. The Leica lenses used on the Panasonic cameras are of
excellent quality.

Kodak P series would seem to fit all those requirements plus: save in raw,
tiff, jpeg; full manual mode; and other 'dsl-like' features. Try the Kodak
online store for refurbs - I got a P850 for $225 earlier and it has me
very well satisfied. >> Stay informed about: Need Recommendation for Point and Shoot |

Hello, Ray:
Although, the "P" cameras aren't very compact.
(I love my P850, anyway. <g>)
