I have an Epson RX700 which I don't very much like - large, problems with
paper feeds and so on. I don't use the card readers (too slow), I don't
print directly from cards either, I don't photocopy, I don't mind loosing
the scanning (I could buy a cheap seperate scanner), I don't print text, I
just print photos, I don't want to print larger than A4.

I just want a very good quality photo printer with as low maintenance as
possible. All of the printers I can find seem to offer me knobs & whistles I
don't want but I think I could narrow it down to HP Photosmart D7360, Epson
Stylus Photo R800 or the Canon Pixma Ip6700D. Have I missed any others? I
welcome comments on the printers I have listed and any that I have missed.

TIA, Roger

I have a Canon Ip6700. I got in February and have been very happy with
it. The quality of pictures that it prints is impressive to me, though
all I have to compare it to on a personal basis are a series of HP
inkjets. It does seem to be fairly hungry for ink, but that's true with
most photo printers. Some don't like its text quality, but what little
I've printed on it seems OK to me. (I print a fairly large amount of
text material, but I have a separate HP1020 laser for that.

As you mentioned A4, I assume that you aren't in the US, but in case I'm
wrong about that my local Fry's has a sale on refurbs for something like
$70 US. I don't know if that is a nationwide price, and I also don't
know if it includes any ink cartridges; if no ink at that price, not
such a bargain after all. Another thing I should mention--as with most
printers, the ink cartridges supplied with it are only half full, so
expect to buy replacements very soon. I ordered my printer from Newegg
and they had a very good special price on a replacement set of all six
cartridges.

Have you checked the new Kodak all-in-ones? They are supposed to have
print consummables (i.e. ink) for about half the cost of the competition.
I have no independent confirmation.

If it makes a difference to you, check out the Epson website for a
refurbished R800 (they are really cheap and come with the same warranty and
accessories as new). By really cheap I mean that Epson sells refurbs (look
and act like new, I've bought two other model Epson printers this way) for
up to 2/3 off. That may change your priorities on printers. AFAIK, none of
the other manufacturers do this.

I have the Canon Pixma iP 4300 which is a very good consumer photo
printer.Has the smallest droplet in its category (1 pL) so is very economic
with ink.Can print up to A4, borderless. Can print on printable cds and
dvds.No consumer's bells and whistles like LCD screen, card readers, scanner
etc.Permanent paper tray, like a laser.Prints on both sides of a document
(and on special canon 13 X 18 double sided satin photo paper).Has excellent
print quality.Has 5 ink tanks and a disposable photo head ( that has all ink
circuits and is separate), bulk black, photo black, magenta, yellow, cyan. In
7 months (and 100s of photos and document pages)I have changed BKblack once,
magenta 3 times, cyan once, yellow two and black once;-)The printer itself
cost me 130 euros and the genuine Canon tanks cost 15 euros for 13 ml of
ink.Everything is made in Japan, printer, ink tanks and paper.
