I actually buy my MP3 players at B&H instead of a place like Best Buy or
Circuit City, because I know that I'll be treated fairly and
professionally. And they have PCs and laptops too.

I read it the opposite way round. I took it as a warning that
we would find ads on his site where there did not used to be
ads before. I can't fault him for telling us up front. He
wasn't selling anything in his posting at all.

Well, I have bought most of my equipment from B&H and will
continue to patronize them.

And SPAM ALERT was just being divisive and trollish. Don is
a long-time regular here, SPAM ALERT just arrived.

Do you have to flaunt your ignorance? Or are you just flouting the rules
of sensible posting yet again?

One doesn't need much "configuring", and there's ever so much more time
to actually do work as there're no viruses to shield against.

LOL, well I've been an Amazon and Adorama associate for years, and not
only are the commissions paying for the web hosting and a new camera or
lens occasionally, I get a lot of nice e-mails thanking me for the web
sites (which I don't get paid for, and which have no advertising).
Usually it's less than $200 per quarter in commissions, but it's better
than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. Occasionally I'll get a nice
surprise with several D-SLRs being purchased from the click through.

But if someone just posts a Usenet post with their associate ID then
that's not providing a service, and I won't penalize the retailer by
clicking through, they are already operating on thin margins.

Every time I go to NYC, it warrants a trip to B&H even though it's more
expensive to buy stuff in person than to have it shipped due to the high
NYC sales tax. Last time I wanted some small binoculars for a play we
were going to that night. Very helpful guy in the binocular department
who wasn't pushing me to the most expensive stuff.

I'll be sure to use Don's link (at least until I become an associate
myself!).

I would certainly miss it. He does a ton of work on behalf of consumers,
for free. I use http://donwiss.com/pictures/BrooklynStores/ as a
reference all the time when people I know ask me about the reputation of
a particular store.

One more anti-Don vote registered by the troll's sock puppet. But
even if 1,000 more of your sibling socks post similar votes, they
won't add up to more than 1 vote, Biddy.

Quite possible. Use Proxomitron for all your web surfing. You can set it to
block anything on any web page. There's one filter built-in that is specifically
set to block any off-site loading of images and ads. Any new web-code that tries
to bypass known filters you just simply write a new filter using that web page's
received source code. Though when used in conjunction with Opera's built in
content-blocker there's often no need to write your own filters for Proxomitron.
They work quite nicely together to block all spam from anywhere that's being
forced upon the public by any means that they try to use. Even flash content is
no match for this combo of content blockers. Though Opera's content-blocker is a
little limiting because it only works on a site-by-site basis. Proxomitron
filters apply to any site that you visit no matter the origin.

The last time I saw an ad online was about 12 years ago. Minus the one or two a
year that I have to set a new filter for.

Just because you aren't net-savvy doesn't mean the other 99.9999999% of the
surfers are as ignorant. Corporations have been trying to find ways for years to
beat the filters in Proxomitron, even going so far as attacking the sites that
host Proxomitron. They can't stand it that we can filter them all out. Too bad.
I see the net as the way it was intended to be in the beginning, before
corporations and capitalists tried to take control of it. It bothers them to no
end that that is impossible for them to do. The net is still free from corporate
bullshit (from my side of the net), you just have to be smart enough to know how
to filter them all out en masse.
