Post subject: Pictures on a CD

I'm trying to display a slide show of pictures on my TV using a Sony DVD/CD
player. The pictures will not display in the same order that they are put
on the CD. Sony's instructions suggest using a prefix 01, 02, etc. on the
file names but this doesn't seem to work.

Any suggestions?

The problem may be that they are being played in the exact order
that they were burned on the CD. If you use a browser such as
Windows Explorer to examine the CD you'll see the files in whatever
sort order you currently have selected. To see them in unsorted
order (the physical order that they appear on the CD) you can use
the DIR command in a DOS window. If you type "DIR /p" in that
window (the /p is used to "pause" the output after each screenfull
is displayed) you'll see if the file order is what you assumed it
was (what you wanted it to be), or if it corresponds to the order
that the Sony DVD/CD player is displaying the files. If it shows
the same order that the Sony is displaying the files there might be
a way to get the file order that you want, but first see if this is
what has happened.

Thanks for the help. I listed the CD drive (which took me a minute to
figure out how to do as I can't remember the last time I used the dos
prompt). I found that the pictures are listed on the CD numerically by file
name by the first numeral. I named the files 1.jpg, 2.jpg...10.jpg,
11.jpg...20.jpg, 21.jpg, etc. for a total of 30 files. When the pictures
were put on the CD they were put in order
1,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,2,20,21, etc. and this is the order in
which they are displayed on the Sony DVD/CD player. So...if I rename the
files I should get them displayed in the order I want.

You're welcome. It's good that you got it resolved so quickly.
There are at least two other things that I've found can mess up the
order that files are accessed on CD. One, which was ruled out
because you had already renamed the files with the numerical prefix,
can occur when the part of the filename preceding the period exceeds
8 characters. The other is more subtle, and can sometimes be caused
by a peculiarity of the way WinXP copies multiple files that depends
on how they were selected for copying or moving, which I found
operates a little differenly when using some earlier versions of
Windows.
