The cheapest solution may be to simply buy another card reader for the SD card.
Minolta makes an adapter that holds the SD card from an Optio S, and plugs
into the Compact Flash socket in the Canon. It is the SD-CF1 Compactflash
Adapter for SD Memory Cards. It wasn't cheap, and there may be less
expensive versions available from other sources.
It could be used to share memory between the two cameras. It would also
plug into her adapter.
