I think I will purchase a Olympus SP-550 UZ

What do you think?

Any advice?

I thought about purchasing a DSLR but finally I think I will buy a compact
camera. The reasons are:

- Weight and size: I enjoy as a child trying to take the best pictures, but
I dont want to take heavy loads (for example a SLR + 18-55mm len for
landscapes and 55-150mm len for birds)
- The Olympus has a 28mm wide angle
- Of course price, althought I woult not matter to expend 100 or 200 Eur if
it worth it

Thanks in advance

Why not wait a couple of months and buy the new improved SP-560 instead? It
has 8 Megapixels, a larger sensor, 27 mm wide angle, a more powerful popup
flash and several other improvements.

Ok, just make sure that you buy the SP-550 at the new reduced price. With
the introduction of the SP-560 there's no reason to pay full price any
longer for the older model. Even the new SP-560 is being sold at a LOWER
price than the original price of the SP-550.

I am going to travel in October so I would like to have the camera before.

However I have been told that the SP-550 is a good camera but I am afraid
that SP-560 is not still completly tested

I bought an SP-510UZ just before they announced the 550.
I like it in most respects: lots of shooting modes and manual controls,
big zoom range, good battery life. Have gotten some great shots with it.

A few of the things I don't like might also affect the 550. A few times
I've been out shooting and found the camera forgot how to zoom in and
out, had to do a camera reset. High-ISO shots are noisy, of course. It
can be quite a pain to find a specific adjustment because the menu
structure is not so intuitive. Uploading from camera to computer is
slow. Manual focus is pretty useless as implemented. And I found out too
late that if you shoot in shutter-priority mode, the narrow aperture
range won't be able to deal with big changes in light level and the
camera won't warn you if your exposure will be way off (possibly a
common problem).
