Archived from groups: rec>photo>digital (more info?)

I'm planning on purchasing Noise Ninja Pro. But, why would I want to pay
the extra $10 to get the Plug-In + Standalone, vs just getting the
Standalone version? Does the Plug-In version do something that the
Standalone version does not, other than allow me to work within PSE3? I
don't see it much of a hassle to open NN, do my noise reduction on all
my pics, then open PSE3 and edit.

But, if there's something I'm missing, please let me know.

Also, does anyone know if a Profile has been created for the Pentax
K100D? It doesn't appear on www.picturecode.com/profiles.htm, but maybe
there's another website that has trustworthy NN Profiles???

Thanks!

I have standalone only. Most of the time, a workflow like what you
describe works fine for me.

Then, every now and then, I decide that I need to hand-optimize the
noise reduction, or use it on one photo in a batch I mostly wasn't using
it on, or something, and I wish I had the plugin too. I don't think
that deal was available when I bought; either that or I saved the $10,
which is quite possible.

It's trivial to create your own; just print out the chart, and
photograph it at the ISO and general settings you mostly care about. I
suspect for low-light work that white balance setting may also be
important. Read and follow their instructions -- remember to defocus
slightly, in particular.

Then go through their profile making process, and let it figure out the
names from the EXIF info.

Of course, if you don't have the camera, this is a bit harder Smile.

Thanks, David! I do have the camera, and am loving it, so far! Still
learning, though!

Thanks for clueing me in on the possibility of creating my own Profile.
I'll have to look into that a bit more - just thought it would be simple
to import a good one. But, it doesn't sound too difficult to do myself.

It doesn't sound like a big deal to not have the Plug-In version of NN
Pro, tho. Maybe I'll save the $10.....unless someone knows of a reason
that I would NEED the Plug-In.
