I am unhappy with my Nikon D80 pictures-inaccurate colours as though from a
cheap camera although the pictures are sharp. Would be interested to hear
from other D80 users.

What program are you using to examine/edit the D80's pictures?
Also, what color mode has the camera been set to use? Adobe RGB
(mode II) or one of the two sRBG modes, Ia (the default) or IIIa?
Is your photo editor/viewer defaulting to the same color mode? I
assume that the D80's white balance, hue adjustment and saturation
settings aren't the cause of the inaccurate colors, as the D80's
manual suggests (on p.131) that if "Colors are unnatural" that you
should set the mode to P, S, A or M and adjust the white balance or
adjust the Optimize Image settings. Lastly, I assume that you are
working with jpg files and not raw image files, which may need some
initial processing.

Not to mention needing to be sure that your monitor is calibrated
properly so that colors are true.
