I'm agonizing between the two -- I need a DSLR camera that is small for
travel, takes excellent pictures, in the $600 price range. They are
both identically priced... I'm worried about the Canon XT because it's
an older model, vs. the Nikon which is brand new (the Canon XTi is out
of my price range).

Any suggestions?

Alex

Both will take fine pictures and both have similar quality kit lenses.
They're both small, so I think you should handle them and see which
one feels better in your hands.
