Not verified yet, but it appears that Nikon is releasing
the D3 model today. At least two of them have been
listed on eBay this morning, and the one with a
Buy-It-Now price was sold in minutes (I was the 13th
viewer, and it was already gone). The going price tag
was $5650, shipping from Boston.

It will be interesting to see, as the day goes on, if
major outlets around the country will be shipping their
first batch today.

They are sending me one for test report today to reach me Monday. Looks
like all the production stock is now arrived and ready to ship here in
the UK. They have had two or three pre-prods on trial with photographers
for the last month, and one of our leading photojournalists has switched
from Canon.

That, and the 400mm f/2.8 VR, the 14-24mm f/2.8G, and the 24-70mm
f/2.8G were all supposed to be released today. The 500mm f/4 VR and the
600mm f/4 VR have no announced ship dates yet, other than "early 2008."

There's some whining going on about field curvature of the 24-70 @ 24mm,
and soft edges wide at 70mm on the d3.
Seems Bjorn's "5" rating (based on testing on a D2x) may have been a
little premature?

I always praise internet reviews that say what I want to hear and call them
stupid when they don't. Human nature, I suppose.
