Hi (sorry maybe dumb Question)

My D200 has been nothing but trouble since the day I bought it. The on
camera flash does not work (worked for few time only) make weird noises
sometime. But now I have an issue with the auto focus that I don't have with
my D100. When I focus on an object it focuses right but if the object move
slightly the focus won't re adjust. I have to release my finger and repress
half way again. is it me not understanding the camera or the camera. it
does it on S or CS mode.
thank you, Ronnie

Hello,
Do you mean that if you set the front AF mode switch to C and focus on
something, then if that something moves focus is not readjusted? It
should. However, at which position do you have the rear AF mode
switch? Try it at single area (the lowest position). Also, it is
possible to adjust the lock-on delay (as the camera calls it), which
is basically the delay between the AF system detecting a large
distance shift and the lens refocusing to the new distance.

Anyway there's a lot of settings to check. I'd start with the rear AF
mode switch (and let us know what happens).

Well on mine there's an actual switch on the front which selects af-c,
af-s or manual. setting a2 (if that's what you mean) determines
whether the shutter releases or not (in single AF mode) when you press
the shutter release and the AF system cannot confirm focus. setting a1
is the same for continuous AF.

You need to set the autofocus to AF-C (continuous).Custom setting 2 in the
menu.

Dennis.
