I hope this isn't a dumb question. I just bought a Fujifilm Finepix
S6000fd and a 1G Fuji XD memory card. I put the card in the camera and
formatted it, but after taking 6 pictures, I get the message Memory
Card Full. The manual only suggests deleting photos from the card, but
this should take at least 350 pics, I understand, not 6! What am I
doing wrong? I'm a newbie to digital cameras, and would really
appreciate your help.

Thank you. I formatted the card after it said memory was full and my
pictures disappeared, so I assumed the card was inserted okay since it
would format. Does that make sense? I don't have another memory card,
unfortunately.

Thanks to you who have tried to help me. My technophobe husband
inserted the card with a little more force than I had used, and now I
think it's going to work. Sorry for wasting your time.

Six pictures sounds more like the capacity of the internal 10 MB memory. The
display should indicate your remaining shots (upper right corner) in record
mode. Make sure the memory card is properly inserted in its slot (remove /
insert a couple of times). If it still does not work, you may have to get a
warranty exchange - by inserting another XD card (if you have one) you can
find out if the card or the camera is at fault.

Do you have the camera shooting uncompressed raw, maybe? How large are raw
files?

Hi...

Don't have a Fuji; have an 8 mp Olympus. I can take 88 full sized raw
pics on a 1 gig card, so you're way short.

A thought... did you buy the card brand spanking new, open the sealed
box yourself? I ask because I quite often use one of mine to transfer
pictures back and forth, just copying them with a card reader to the
root of the card. It's possible someone may have done the same with
yours.

If you have a card reader, it might be worth your while to take a look
at the whole card with a reader.

If you don't have a reader (or a friend/neighbor with one), you could
take it to one of the Kodak kiosks in a store near you. When you put
the card in the machine it will find any pic on it, no matter where it
finds it. (the camera will look only in it's \dcim\* directory)
This trick however won't find files that it doesn't want to print,
so the card reader is best.

Take care.

Ken

The format she perfumed should remove anything from the root including
non-DCM folders and non-picture format files. I would suspect a faulty
card; given that cards are cheap perhaps get a second card and try that,
I have 2GB in the camera and a 256MB as a spare, it should hold about
sixty JPG images from an 8mp camera.

Hello, Ian:

Every one of my own memory cards always smells better, too, after I've
"perfumed" a format. Very Happy
