I have a Sony Mavica 97, which has been quite useful for my purposes. I
realize that it was probably obsolete when I purchased it in 2002.

Just got back from a trip to S.E.Asia. It worked when I got back and I
transferred all the pictures from my memory stick via the USB cable.

I had the cable connected to the camera via the USB cable for about a
week.

I went to use the camera this week and although I can view pictures on
the memory stick, the viewfinder is dark in either the still or video
mode.

If I use the flash, there's a slight lightness in the viewfinder.
Otherwise, it's dead.

Could the camera have been "zapped" somehow while connected to the
computer via the USB cable?

Is this repairable?

I would guess it is unrelated, anything can be fixed but at what price,
call Sony. Its probably not worth fixing at sonys prices. If it still
shoots and records it is now your limited use or backup camera.

I assume you recherged/replaced the batteries? Otherwise I agree with
the other post, the camera is of marginal value, may cost a lot to
repair, there are so many better camera now. I wouldn't even stick with
Sony because of the memory stick, most cameras now need 256mb and up
cards. If you want to stick with the super zoom arangement, Panasonic
Fuji, Canon all have this type of camera, some may even have image
stabilization.

That's the thing, it doesn't shoot pictures.
