Hi,

I'm about to try some selling on eBay and wondered if anyone had any
suggestions on making a lightbox. I'll be trying to sell cameras,
books, other three-dimensional objects. What kind of lights and how
many for my Lumix LX1 p&s digital camera? What materials, etc? It
wouldn't need to be any larger than about 16-18" on a side. Thanks for
any suggestions or URLs.

Not sure what kind of a light box you are talking about. Do you mean
a light box for showing large transparencies, or a lighting tool for
tabletop photography. I assume from context that you mean the latter.
You might try a simple cotton screen in front of floodlights.

For tabletop photography.

Nick's setup is a great way to go and have some fun making the setup.
However,if you are into DIY projects, the following device is available
ready made and at a good price, too.

I would just add that drafting film/paper - the 'tracing paper' stuff
used by architects and engineers - is pretty easy to obtain from
newsagents. It is nicely translucent and usually has no colour cast,
so it works very well as a diffuser.

Oh, I get it. Like humor. Only different.
In the first place, where did I say they were photography books?

Why don't you open up one of _your_ books on civility and read it. Oh--I
forgot; you don't have any. Goodbye.

Outstanding presentation, Nick!
That's the sort of self made, low cost thing I like to see and use myself.
Many photographers think you have to have at least Prosumer, "Store
Bought" lighting setups to get really good pictures.
Your "El Cheapo" setup should lay that myth to rest.
Thanks for sharing your ingenuity with us.

Put a table by a good bright window. Cover it with an A3 piece
of paper. Bend another A3 piece of paper into a 3/4 circle and stand
upright on the first bit of paper. Place object inside. Point camera
on tripod through gap. Select small aperture for good DoF. Expose to
blow out white paper.

You might also need some clear sticky tape Smile

Well it is not difficult to do a search on light box and see them or go into
your local photo shop and have a look is it. The commercial ones are cheap
enough and very good that I would not bother making one. I use a Glanz box.
