Hi Everyone,

I previously posted the "Gap Year choice of Lens" earlier this week but it
has led to some other related questions.

Firstly I am now considdering renting a long lens (100-400 L zoom or even
300/400 L prime) while I am over there rather than buying a lower spec item
outright and having to lug it around the world with me. The problem is I
dont know where to start or how much it would cost. Does anyone know of
anywhere in South Africa where I could rent the equipment (preferably near
to Kruger park)?

Which brings me to the second question. Regardless of whether I buy a
longer zoom or rent a lens I will still require some sort of insurance
during the trip. Have any of you had any experience with camera equipment
insurance companies and would you be prepared to recomend a few? Do you
have any comparitive costs?

Thanks in advance,

John

The first place to check is your homeowner/rentor insurance company;
you do trust them, right?

Based on the crime rate you now have in SA, they should give you a
bodyguard and a machine gun with each lens rented.

what's the best lens for my purposes??? - i'd like to get a digital slr to shoot my artwork. that is all the camera will EVER be used for. i want a lens that will suit my needs. i believe 50mm is slightly wide, is it not? so i need 55mm, and for convenience anything up to 85mm, maybe. most..

The best 70-200 lens for travelling - Just wonderring what the collective think is the best 70-200 (or thereabouts) lens for travelling with a Canon 300D. I am planning a rtw trip with my wife next year and want a light but robust lens for shots which my existing 17-85 can't handle. One....

Lens Question - Hi, I have an 80-200 f2.8 Nikon Zoom left over from a late and totally unlamented F-100 that I used to own. It was the most unreliable and fragile 35mm that I've ever had! Anyway- it seems that when you use 35mm lenses on digital cameras there are..

Sigma lens opinion - I am an amateur photographer and am looking at Sigma 70-300mm APO DG for Canon 350D. I do not intend to blow up the photos or worried about absolute perfection. Will I be better off gong for the DG version only which is half the price?

can i use eyeglass cleaners on my lens - i feel so newbie asking this. at first i thought why not, but then i got to thinking that camera optics may actually require more care. my glasses get sctratched eventually, but i don't know if that's because of the cleaning solution or just dust..
