I have an Olympus Stylus 400 and loved it until now.
After I open the sliding lens cover, sometimes the lens retracts back into
the camera. It's as if I had started to close it, but I didn't.

Any one have this problem? Any suggestions?

Warning: I do not know anything about the Stylus 400 camera!!!

However, it sounds like a problem that happens with other sliding lens
covers. Sometimes they lose the ball (a tiny bearing) that keeps them
fully open or closed. When that happens, the slightest motion of the
cover toward the lens trips the closing switch and retracts the lens.
On some cameras it is easy to pop the cover off and install a new ball
or find the ball and put it back where it belongs. Be careful when you
remove the cover though, the ball might spring out and across the room.
Put the camera in a big ziplock bag or white trash bag to catch the
parts.

I have the same camera and same problem and it just gets worse. I finally
bought a #00 Phillips screw driver today and took the cover off. It does not
appear that anything is missing or broken. The problem appears to be too
tight of a tolerance and a little wear now causes a rotary switch to open
incompletely. I am going to try putting a small drop of epoxy on in the
channel that the rotary switch rides in. For now, I try to hold the cover
completely open with my fingers as I take the pictures. That works fine.

Please let me know if the epoxy works.

I'm kicking myself that I didn't get the extended warranty.
