Yes, there is a new must-have camera, Sigma DP1. It does not have an
optical viewfinder or AA batteries, it has something better -- an APS-
C sized sensor in the compact body...

They could, but then the lens would be much bigger. You're spoiled by
the tiny lenses made possible by tiny (but low quality) sensors. The
DP-1 sensor is much, much bigger than normal compact digital camera
sensors, so the lens has to be much bigger as well. Or if you want a
smaller lens, it has to be slower. Check out the aperture ranges of
lenses on compact 35mm or APS film cameras - they're also very slow in
order to make them small enough.

Looks very interesting, I'm looking forward to the pics.
But with such a short, fixed focal length, couldn't they have easily

Naturally, just like the optional viewfinder for Ricoh's
GR-Digital. Please note that the external flash is also an optional
accessory. Being able to remove the viewfinder or flash might be a
big advantage for you during those times when you're taking pictures
while standing in the back of a pickup truck that's fast approaching
a low-hanging overpass. >> Stay informed about: Latest High End P & S |

Fine with me, if it doesn't compromise the sensor too much I prefer a
live-view LCD. >> Stay informed about: Latest High End P & S |

In my case, I know how big my 24mm f/2 lens (covers 35mm) is. The DP-1
is a 16.6mm I believe, so the front element diameter required for f/2 is
correspondingly smaller. This doesn't look so terribly hard to do to me. >> Stay informed about: Latest High End P & S |

Ah, well, then that's okay. Especially given it's very high 14
