Post subject: Kodax easyshare problem
Archived from groups: rec>photo>digital (more info?)

I am using Windows XP and a Kodax easyshare camera CX7330 Over a
period of time
I have downloaded a couple of hundred photos onto the computer. I now
find that when I click on the Kodax icon on the desktop to open the
page, I get a warning message,
'Kodax easyshare software has encountered a problem and needs to
close' It sugests I send a report to Microsoft. .I can get a lot of
technical jargon which does to tell me anything.
I have searched the Kodax help pages, Run repair under add and remove,
held down Ctrl,Alt and delete.
But alas I still have the problem.
Thought of removing the kodax programme, inserting the disc and
starting again, but I fear I will loose all the photos on the
computer.
How can I resolve the problem?
Any help would be appreciated.
Peter.

Sending the problem report to Microsoft is just Windows default action
on errors. It will probably not help, and yes - most times the
information they give you is more techno-babble than help.

I am not familiar with the Easyshare programme so take everything I
say with a grain of salt. You should not lose you pictures if you drop
and re-install, but you might lose your configurations and/or picture
database. It would always be a good idea to back up your photos before
attempting this.

Actually, it would proabbly be a good idea to back up the images
anyways. Nothing brings panic like a dead hard drive filled wit
valuable data, and nothing brings more relief than gabbing your backup
disks and recovering.

Good luck

In control panel under 'scanners and cameras,' only the scanner is
shown. This may be the answer. Time for bed now, but am I will consider
putting in the camera disc to re install and see what happens.

First, reloading the Easyshare software will NOT delete any of your
pictures. If you aren't confident of that, just copy your pictures to
another place on your HD.

I do not know what all this is about, however I deleted kodax from
the computer, then using the disc re installed. Bingo ,it works, then
put in the CD and all the photos I had put on CD some time ago are
back in situ
Thanks for all the help

First you need to get an expensive DSLR camera to do things right.
Then make sure you get Photoshop because that's the only software
worth owning. Everyone uses it so it must be good.

Now that you have that working, I strongly suggest you download the
latest version from the Kodak site as what is shipped with a camera is
usually quite old by the time you get it.

I will be quite surprised if you don't get an update notification as the
versions on CDs included with cameras are usually quite old.

Hello, Peter:

Your EasyShare software will be updated, automatically, when the time
comes. (You need to be online, of course.)

Hi Peter,

I am going to assume you have a Picture CD. Kodak includes the EasyShare
program on the CD as the tool to manage your images and display them etc.
Your images stay on the CD of course so you can store it away for future
needs.

Once the program installs, it will retain the thumbnails so you can review
in your system. Also, when you install the software you are offered the
option of auto updates. If you choose the option the Kodak Updater will run
in the background and update the software for you. When a new version is
found it is downloaded and prepared for installation. An alert is offered to
let you know when this happens. You can then say yes or no to the
installation.

The latest version is 6.3 and has a number of options. You can learn all
about the software by going to the following URL. If you have questions, I
and the others here - who are most helpful - will be around to assist you.

http://www.kodak.com/go/easysharesw

Talk to you soon,

Ron Baird
Eastman Kodak Company
