Has anyone dealt with this *&$%@# place? I had to send my camera back 3
or 4 times and it's still not fixed right!

The problem is the viewfinder is out of focus. This problem shows up
very easy if I'm zoomed out. I hold the button halfway down and the
camera does it's auto focus, but the viewfinder is still out of focus.

There is an adjustment on the side of the camera to focus it, but it
doesn't adjust far enough. It used to work fine until my brother
dropped it and also screwed up the lens.

The last time I sent it in I purposely turned the viewfinder focus way
out of range. Twice I asked them to please call me if they could not
duplicate the problem and neither time did they take the time to call.

They ship it back saying nothing is wrong. The last time they did
remark that I had the viewfinder out of adjustment. I think they may
have actually done something the last time because it is better, but
still not fixed.

It's a DX6490. I should have just trashed the camera and bought a new
one. I would have if I knew how much their repair department sucks.

Tony

What is the location of this repair shop? I may have had them.

Right down the street from me. Took my 30D in to get some metal filings
cleaned out of it--they didn't particularly impress me. Didn't seem
_that_ incompetent though. It did come back clean and working.

While I agree that the problem should have been fixed, maybe you should
have suggested that your brother should replace the camera he
damaged.... Might be cheaper in the long run..

No, I asked my brother to hold the camera for me, he was doing me a
favor. I would never ask for anyone in that kind of situation to pay
for repair or replacement. If I'm not paying them, they aren't
responsible.

Now if he (or anyone) asked to borrow my camera and dropped it, then I
would expect them to repair/replace it.

Dang! I have a Sanyo? When did I get that? What model is it? It's
amazing how you know that I own items and I don't even know it! Do
you have dreams like in the TV show "The Medium"? You are so special,
can you tell me the name of my dead dog?

Precision Camera Repair is associated with Kodak only to the extent that
Kodak is one of the brands that they service.

I have a stupid question for you. Do you wear glasses?

The focus adjustment in the finder is intended to be a correction for
less than perfect vision and has a limited range. If you need a strong
correction it might not have sufficient range unless you are wearing
your glasses.

On the other hand it's possible that the LCD in the finder has shifted,
but for that to happen structure would probably have to be broken.

Yes, they are an authorized repair center. Kodak referred them to me
for service. I'm not sure if they do warranty service also.

Not a stupid question at all. Yes I do wear glasses. Before the camera
was dropped, I could focus the viewfinder and still had a little further
I could go if I had to. Maybe the person doing the repair is farsighted
and I am nearsighted? Still, there should be a center point for
adjustment. It was way off the first few times I asked to have it fixed.

All I can say is that it worked perfect before it was dropped. Oh, and
my eyeglass lenses are on the weak side.

I think I'm going to have to send the camera to Kodak and have them send
a different "factory serviced" camera. Kodak gave me that choice
since Precision Camera @ 4 Anngina Drive, Enfield CT 06082 doesn't seem
to have the knowledge to do the repair themselves.

Yep, that's them. I sent my Sony VX-2000 there and got it back
misaligned for DV tapes that it had recorded when it was new. Sent it
back with an example tape from before, and then it was aligned better.

And don't forget the Medalist--bulky, but tough. Its biggest drawback
was its 620 film size, instead of 120. I owned neither a Medalist nor an
Ektra, but I did have a Kodak Bantam Special. I had it because it was
the first decent camera that showed up in my home town after WWII.
Interesting little camera--folded down to pocket size, but with an f/2.0
Ektar and coupled rangefinder. Biggest drawback--its 828 film size, with
a slightly larger area than 35mm (28 by 40 mm) but only eight exposures.
I must say that it looked rather weird when I put on a King Sol 3-D-cell
flash gun. I got some really good pictures with it, back in the days of
the original Kodachrome (modern ASA 10), Panatomic X, Plus X, and Super XX.
