I'm using IVs thumbnail view. After scrolling down to view a
particular section of thumbnails, if I switch away and back to IV the
view has reverted back to the very top. I have to scroll or page down
again to find my last position.

Is there a setting that's eluding me which is causing this behaviour
please?

Just did what you describe with Irfanview 3.99, and it returned to the
same place in the thumbnails. Can't suggest a setting that might
control this, but if you don't have 3.99, you might try it and see if it
corrects the problem.

No setting that I'm aware of. But if you switch away and back,
the view does NOT revert back to the very top. It reverts back to
the thumbnail of the currently open image. So if you have a
thumbnail highlighted and want to lock IV on to that one, just hit
the enter key which will change the currently open image and then
switch away to wherever . . . When you switch back, the highlighted
thumbnail will not have changed. If you need to keep a prior image
open, you'll have to work with multiple open instances of IrfanView.

Regardless of having a main IrfanView window open or not: IrfanView
thumbnail viewer always acts as if it was connected to *one particular*
main window. The position inside thumbnail viewer therefore does not
depend on the cursor inside the thumbnail viewer, but on the picture
(maybe virtually) opened inside the linked main window. If you opened
the thumbnail viewer stand-alone, this will always be the first
picture.

Not an option. But if you double-click on a thumbnail to open the
picture inside the linked main window, this picture becomes the new
default. Switching back and forth between applications will now
return you to *that* selected thumbnail.

HTH.

Many thanks. That explains it exactly, and the work-around works fine.

Thanks. In this case I had selected nothing - I was just viewing the
thumbnails. See BeAr's explanation.

Probably because you started up IrfanView by using its icon rather
than indirectly, by double clicking on one of its associated image
files.
